The SLMR series to begin its ninth season

From its beginning in 2008, which featured a schedule of 13 completed events at four race tracks, the SLMR series has grown to a series that typically schedules 18 to 20 races a year with a range of tracks (the series has raced at 19 different tracks) that has taken the series from the Dawson County Speedway in Lexington, Nebraska in the west to the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa in the east and from Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. In 2016, the SLMR series has added another new track, the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Missouri.

One of the major contributors in helping the series grow over the years has been Jay Burdic, President of the Malvern Trust and Savings Bank (Malvern) in Malvern, Iowa. Over the year’s the bank has steadily increased its financial support of the series to where in 2016 that number will be over $50,000.

While gradually growing the purse over the years, in 2016 the series will still be able to offer a purse to the local tracks at a cost of less than $10,000 while with additional funding provided by Malvern Bank, offering the drivers a purse of just under $11,000 for a 20 car feature and paying $1,200 to win and $325 to start.

Malvern Bank also provides the point fund for the series ($25,400 in 2016) which is referred to as the Malvernbank.com SLMR Series and features “the Race for Safe” as the winner of the series gets his point fund in a small safe.

The Malvernbank.com SLMR Series will open its 2016 season at the Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa on Friday, May 6.
