Berck Doubles Up In Corning

Berck Doubles Up In Corning

Round number 10 of the season directed the Malvern Bank SLMR Series back to the Series title sponsors home track, the Adams County Speedway. 29 cars were on hand for the second visit of the season to Corning, Iowa’s fast half-mile.

The night got under way with time trials. Tad Pospisil and Corey Zeitner were quickest in their respective groups but Tad set overall quick time, posting a lap of 21.745. The heat races were won by Justin Zeitner, Kyle Berck, Tad Pospisil, and JC Wyman. After trouble in his heat race Ames, Iowa’s Charlie McKenna rebound to pick up the B-Feature win.

Jason O’Brien and Kyle Berck paced the way for the 25-lap, $2,000 to-win main event. Kyle Berck jumped into the early lead while the field scattered behind him. Corey Zeitner powered his way to the fourth spot moving past Ben Schaller. While Berck and his 14-machine checked out Bill Leighton, JC Wyman, and Andrew Kosiski battled for the 7th spot. Leighton finally cleared Wyman for the 7th spot on lap 8 and opened the door for Kosiski. Kosiski couldn’t capitalized and remained riding in the 9th spot. As the leaders hit lap traffic Tad Pospisil had reeled in Jason O’Brien. O’Brien was able to hold him off before the first yellow of the feature waved as Matt Snoberger had spun in turn 2. On the restart Pospisil, Schaller, and Corey Zeitner were all able to move around the 15 of O’Brien after capitalizing on a bad corner by the 15. As the field raced down to the next corner the yellow flag was thrown again as JC Wyman spun in turn 4.

Berck led the field back to green one more time. Series rookie Nick Deal ran up to the 7th spot on the restart getting by Bill Leighton and Andrew Kosiski. The field strung out over the course of the remaining laps and as the checkered flag waved it was Kyle Berck picking up his second win of the season, Tad Pospisil came home P2, Ben Schaller ran 3rd, Corey Zeitner in 4th, and Jason O’Brien rounded out the top 5.
