Pospisil Dominates for 50th SLMR Series Win at Southern Iowa
Tad Pospisil returned to victory lane in a big way in Wednesday’s Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series’ return to the Southern Iowa Speedway.
The half-mile oval at the Mahaska County Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa, Iowa played host to the East Series for the fourth round of the tour. Drivers from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota made their way to try and conquer the track known as the “Mahaska County Monster” for a shot at a $3,000 payday.
Fort the third consecutive SLMR Series race, Jason Hahne was the top driver in Keyser Manufacturing Qualifying when he set the fastest lap at 18.519 seconds in group 2. The first group saw Reigning East Series Champion Dylan Thornton at the top of the order with a lap of 18.522 seconds, just 3 one thousandths of a second off of Hahne’s time. The third and final group was topped by Tad Pospisil with his lap of 18.759 seconds.
The three heat races for the night were won by three former modified drivers. Troy Morris III, Jacob Hobscheidt and Dylan Sillman all led every lap in route to their heat race victories.
After the points from qualifying and the heats were tallied, Tad Pospisil was the top point driver for the second race in a row, which gave the first opportunity to try for a $750 bonus from the Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place Starter Challenge. Pospisil declined the offer, and the 6th spot would be given to Chad Simpson who won the challenge already this season after his win at the Bloomfield Speedway, the last race for the East Series.
A field of 21 cars took to the speedway to finish the night with their 25-lap Malvern Bank Main Event with Jake Neal sitting on pole position and Tad Pospisil on the outside of the front row. From the get-go, Pospisil capitalized on his starting position using the clean air to take the race lead and proceeded to pull away from the rest of the field.
As the race progressed, lapped traffic posed a challenge for the leader. Pospisil used the middle to high lanes to make the moves around slower cars while Jason Hahne and Jake Neal tried everything to close the gap. Chad Simpson utilized the middle lane to carry momentum to the bottom lane in order to slip by Neal and Blair Nothdurft to get into the third position.
The main event went 25 laps without a single caution lap ran, and it would be Tad Pospisil to take every lap for himself as he secured his 50th career win with the SLMR Series, which is second on the all-time win list. The victory was Pospisil’s first of the 2026 season and his first at Southern Iowa Speedway making him the third different winner in 3 races with the series at the track.
Jason Hahne took second while Chad Simpson came in third. Jake Neal was fourth, and Blair Nothdurft rounded out the top five.
The East Series continues action on Saturday, June 27th with the tour’s second ever visit to the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri to close out the month of June. Following that, the West Series is back in action to kick off Independence Day weekend on Thursday, July 2nd with the tour’s annual visit to the U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Nebraska.
